Welcome. The village of Rignana sits astride a ridge flanked by vineyards and olive trees, in a hidden pocket of the Chianti connected to its neighbors by rutted dirt roads and rather unreliable telephone lines. At the end of the 17th century, Rignana provided a hiding place for Bishop Scipione de Ricci, after his attempts to end image worship in the Roman Catholic Church provoked a violent backlash on the part of clergy and congregations. This year Dawn and Marco are hiding out in Rignana: in the restored canonica (presbytery) of the 800-year-old church of Santa Maria a Rignana. When we emerge from the house, we can walk five minutes to an excellent Tuscan restaurant and a vintner of Chianti Classico; Florence is less than one hour away by car. If you come to visit, you're welcome to use the house as a retreat or a base for exploring Tuscany. We hope these pages will help you find us and plan your stay. Dawn Cunningham and Marco Jacquemet
